Briefing: Seth Material - The Early Sessions, Book 2, Session 62
This document provides key insights from Session 62 of The Early Sessions, Book 2 of the Seth Material, recorded on June 15, 1964. This session delves into the fundamental nature of reality, asserting that consciousness is an inherent property of all energy and matter, which collectively cooperate to form the physical universe.
Key Insight 1: Consciousness is Inherent in All Matter
Seth's central thesis is that the universe is fundamentally conscious. Energy, as it manifests on the physical plane, is not a blind force but is inherently individualized and possesses awareness. This consciousness exists at all levels, from the most basic particles to complex organisms.
"all energy contains some consciousness, in simple or more complicated gestalt fashion, as I have mentioned that atoms and molecules so possess a limited consciousness, and a generalized subconsciousness which contains within it a capsule comprehension of the universe as a whole."
This innate consciousness allows energy particles, upon entering the physical plane, to subconsciously know the potential size and shape of the physical patterns they can form.
Key Insight 2: The Cooperative Basis of Physical Reality
The apparent stability and permanence of the physical world are not accidental but are the result of a continuous, unwavering cooperation among all conscious entities. Human senses are typically conditioned to notice differences and conflict, thereby missing this fundamental collaborative framework that underpins existence.
"the cooperation of all conscious entities provides physical objects with whatever appearance of permanence they have."
This cooperation is an absolute necessity, from the molecular level upwards. On the physical plane, the only alternatives are cooperation or annihilation.
Key Insight 3: Identity is Independent of Physical Form
The session strongly refutes the idea that personal identity is dependent upon the physical body. Seth explains that the body is in constant flux, with its constituent atoms and molecules ceaselessly changing, yet identity is maintained. The limits we place on identity are arbitrary constructs developed for practical navigation of the physical world, not inherent properties of identity itself.
"Identity, being independent of matter, is then not finished when the particular physical pattern is no longer created."
Psychic gestalts, or identities, are described as immortal. While they require matter for their manifestation on the physical plane, their existence is not terminated when the physical form dissolves.
Key Insight 4: The Nature of "Growth" and "Space"
What is perceived as growth is described as energy following the law of "value fulfillment." It is not that the same matter grows, but that energy continually forms a pattern anew, carrying it to the full extent of its potential.
Furthermore, Seth challenges conventional perceptions of reality, stating that the physical universe is not a "place" and that space is a perceptual distortion.
"You had better forget the habit of thinking of your physical universe as a place, for it is simply not a place... The appearance of space is a distortion of your own perception, and that is all."
Both what is perceived as matter and what is perceived as empty space are manifestations of energy, whose true properties are difficult to grasp from within our limited conceptual framework.
