The Almighty Power of Expectation
Seth explains that expectation is the master architect of your life. It’s "the framework for his physical constructions, and more than atoms and molecules it represents the psychic building blocks from which his constructions will be erected."
So, how does it work?
Case Study: Joseph's "Starving Artist" Syndrome
Seth then turns the spotlight on Joseph, our resident artist, and performs what can only be described as a psychic roast. Joseph, it turns out, has a deeply ingrained expectation that a true artist must be poor. If he were to become wealthy, he’d fear losing his talent. To protect his art, he subconsciously ensures he remains broke.
Ruburt's Self-Sabotage Routine
Ruburt (Jane) has his own brand of creative self-destruction. He’s convinced that a writer of "real merit" can't have children, a belief so tangled Seth won't even try to touch it. More critically, he has a deep-seated fear of money, believing it will just be taken away.
The result? "He will write a story otherwise not only excellent but saleable, and put in one or two lines and a tinge throughout the tale, to make it unsaleable." He’s a master of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
So, What About the House?
The house deal fell through because, as they got closer, their expectations changed. The house was the peak of what they thought they could have, but facing it made them realize they could expect more. The energy released by this "expansion of expectation" can now be used to build something even better.
