Cosmic Wisdom and Ghostly Gadgets: Insights from Session 355
Recorded on the evening of July 26, 1967, Seth is in a mood—part mentor, part comedian, and part "I’m too old for this technology" grandpa.
Tech Support and Team Introductions
The session kicks off with Jane Roberts (referred to by Seth as Ruburt) fumbling with a tape recorder. Seth, ever the observer, notes that he was already in the room before the "on" switch was even flipped.
- The Vibe: Seth offers a "heartiest welcome" to the crowd, including Peter Murtough (the "young gentleman friend"), Bill Gallagher (dubbed "the late-coming Jesuit"), and Peg Gallagher (the "cat lover").
- The Quote: "I am not equipped to deal physically with your gadgets."
The Ferd Connection: Developing Psychic Muscles
A major focus of the night is Pete’s connection with an entity named "Ferd." It turns out Ferd is a bit of a newbie in his own realm, and they are basically learning how to use the cosmic walkie-talkie together.
- Transition Woes: Ferd recently left our reality for another and is still figuring out the "new set of conditions."
- Mutual Growth: Pete and Ferd are in a "mutual learning process." Pete’s youth makes him a good receiver because his "condition" in this life approximates Ferd's situation in the next.
- The Homework: Seth doesn't let Pete off easy. He tells him to read everything he can and maintain "severe integrity."
The "Go Big or Go Home" Directive
Seth gets serious (but remains cool) about spiritual development. He has zero time for "halfway measures" and warns that psychic work is as demanding as any vocation.
- The Warning: "Halfway measures are worse than none. The personality with halfway measures is constantly in a state of stress and confusion."
- The Payoff: If you put in the work, you get direct experience of inner reality and "answers to many questions, though others may only guess at them."
- The Quote: "Those who search for truths must search wholeheartedly, or they find only half-truths, and some half-truths are as dangerous as lies."
Spooky History and the Australian Connection
Seth takes a detour into Pete's past lives, proving that reincarnation is the ultimate "throwback Thursday."
- 1571, Spain: Pete was a female dancer named Aledona Mess-Peralla. She lived in a town by a river and died at 56. Fun fact: Pete’s current mother was one of Aledona’s children.
- 1200s, Poland: Pete and Ferd were buddies back then, too! Ferd was a soldier in a "Balkan military affair," and Pete died in a mine explosion.
- The Australian "Hit": Seth identifies a relative in Australia with a connection to the letter "J" and a 1936 date. Pete confirms he has an Uncle John in Canberra.
- The Upside-Down Umbrella: Seth sees a symbol of an "upside-down umbrella"—maybe a coat of arms or a shop sign—that he can't quite place.
The Jesuit and the 3 AM Wake-up Call
Seth wraps up with some humor aimed at Bill (the Jesuit). Apparently, Jane had woken Bill and Peg up in the middle of the night recently, and Seth promises to return the favor.
- The Joke: Seth tells Bill he expects him to be on his knees praying at 3 AM. When Bill asks on whose behalf, Seth quips: "Yours or mine."
