Description

Season 2, Episode 6 of the Element Q Podcast features host TJ Woodward in an inspiring conversation with Byron Williams, who opens up about healing within the LGBTQ+ community, confronting inner biases, and redefining what recovery truly means. Byron, born in Grapevine, TX, is in long-term addiction recovery. With experience ranging from Clinical Services Coordinator to National Outreach Representative, he’s been a powerful advocate for inclusive and affirming care across the recovery field since 2015.

Growing up in predominantly white, straight environments, Byron experienced firsthand the lack of representation and understanding for queer people and people of color in treatment settings. As a Black, gay man, he has made it his mission to bridge those gaps through education, mentorship, and community leadership. In Austin, he serves as the DEI Chair for the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals (TAAP) and co-founded Cotinga Free Spirits, a mobile mocktail and wellness bar that celebrates inclusivity and creative self-expression. Beyond his professional work, Byron continues to inspire through his authenticity and compassion. At No Matter What Recovery, he helps build safe, affirming spaces where healing is personal and holistic
