Hope That Keeps Seeking

“The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him.” —Lamentations 3:25

There are days when hope comes easily, and days when holding on to it feels like work. We pray, we wait, and we wonder when something will change. In those moments, this verse invites us to turn our attention from the answer we want to the One we trust.

Our hope is in Him—not in a perfect schedule, a clear explanation, or a particular outcome. We can bring God our desires without making our trust depend on whether everything unfolds as we imagined.

Seeking Him does not require polished words or an untroubled heart. Sometimes it begins with a simple prayer: “Lord, I am tired, but I am here.” We can turn toward Him with our questions, our disappointments, and the little strength we have left.

Today, let seeking God be more than asking Him to change your circumstances. Make room to be still in His presence. Let this verse remind you of His goodness. Consider what it would look like to approach the next conversation, decision, or unfinished task with your hope resting in Him.

You do not have to pretend the waiting is easy. You can acknowledge the uncertainty and still choose to seek Him.

Key Takeaways

  1. Hope and grief can exist together. The speaker acknowledges his suffering before expressing confidence in God. Devotional application: you do not have to hide your pain to bring it before the Lord. Honest prayer can include both sorrow and trust.enduringword
  2. Remembering God’s faithfulness helps renew hope. The chapter’s turning point comes when the speaker recalls God’s mercy rather than focusing only on his affliction. Devotional application: when discouragement dominates your thoughts, intentionally make room to remember the goodness of God.enduringword
  3. Place your hope in God, not only in a desired outcome. Immediately before verse 25, the speaker identifies the Lord as his “portion”—his enduring source of hope amid loss. Devotional application: bring God your requests while allowing your trust to rest in Him, rather than making it depend on one particular answer.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your goodness. When waiting wears me down, help me place my hope in You rather than in the outcome I want. Receive my honest questions and quiet my anxious thoughts. Teach me to seek You in ordinary moments and to take my next step with faith. Amen.

Reflection for Today

Where have I allowed an uncertain outcome to take more of my attention than God? What is one way I can make room to seek Him today?
