Scripture — Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Seek First
Short Context
In Matthew 6, Jesus speaks directly to the anxieties that can fill everyday life—concerns about food, clothing, provision, and the future. He reminds His followers that their heavenly Father already knows what they need. Rather than allowing worry to lead, Jesus calls us to make God’s kingdom and His righteousness our highest pursuit.
Devotional Thought
A new morning brings fresh responsibilities, decisions, and pressures. It can be easy to begin the day by mentally listing everything that needs to be handled: bills, deadlines, family needs, health concerns, unfinished projects, and unanswered prayers.
But Jesus gives us a better starting place: seek God first.
Seeking the kingdom of God means choosing His rule, His will, and His priorities over the pressure to control every outcome. Seeking His righteousness means asking God to shape our attitudes, choices, words, and actions so that they reflect His character.
This verse is not a promise that life will always unfold exactly as we prefer. It is a promise that when God has first place, we can trust Him with what follows. He is aware of every need before we mention it. He sees the work ahead, the resources required, and the doors that need to open.
Before chasing provision, seek the Provider. Before searching for answers, seek the One who holds all wisdom. Before carrying the weight of the day alone, place your heart before God. When He is first, everything else finds its proper place.
