The basic religious principle of the world is "legalism." It means "I have to earn or deserve" the better life. It is a works-based religion where I have to do more. It is about self-righteousness.But the only way to God according to the Bible is via grace. This is the good news or the gospel of Jesus Christ. Instead of "do more", we are told "It is done!" Jesus said "It is finished" on the cross. Our debt of sin is fully paid by Him if we believe in Him. And the gospel says "Jesus alone is enough!"But it is always so tempting to combine these 2 (legalism and the gospel) together. It is easy to think Jesus alone is not enough, and that we need Jesus plus something else. This is the Jesus plus (Jesus +) religion.See how Paul argues against it in Colossians 2.
