The motivations of Jesus' brothers are unclear. The motives of the religious leaders who seek Jesus are hidden, though their true intent casts a pall over otherwise honest discussions about Jesus. Out of this mix of shadow and confusion, Jesus emerges to clearly declare the message of God. What is hidden in us that gets in the way? Where might God want to shine the light of love and truth to free us to be faithful ambassadors of God's agenda and not our own?

For Reflection:
Out of this scene of confusion and hidden agendas, Jesus emerges with clarity and conviction. Will Jesus emerge from our own darkness?
- Think back to a time when you resisted the invitation and call of Jesus. What helped you find clarity? (For instance, people often speak of new clarity during conversion or repentance from a persistent sin or character flaw).
- Do you practice a time of self-examination? What have been the benefits? Would you consider such a practice for the upcoming season of Lent?
