Description

Joseph of Arimathea went to Pilate to request the body of Jesus. Joseph was a member of Sanhedrin, the Jewish ruling council, but he was a secret disciple out of fear of the other religious leaders. He was much like Nicodemus, another secret disciple, who joined him in burying Jesus. Like Joseph and Nicodemus, does fear make us secret disciples as well?

For Reflection:

Joseph and Nicodemus had power and position but their privilege made them fearful of what they might lose.

- Have you ever lost anything for following Jesus? Friendships, status, opportunities? What do you fear that you might lose if you were more bold and open about your faith?

- Non-Christians often resist when someone shares their faith in a way that is argumentative. Those same people are often receptive when faith is expressed as love and joy. Is there a way in which God might want you to be more openly loving and celebratory with others?
