Daily Devo | What is Truth? (John 18:33-40)
The Roman governor Pilate takes Jesus inside for a private conversation. Pilate asks Jesus two questions: "What have you done?" and "What is truth?" Pilate is looking for a way to get himself and Jesus out of this situation but Jesus' isn't helping. In the end, he offers Jesus of Nazareth to the crowds, but they call for Jesus Barabbas instead -- someone who was much more willing to use political force and violence.

For Reflection:
Today's questions are implicit in the passage:
- What is truth? Like in Pilate's world, is truth a weapon -- an idea to be used to attain political goals? Or is truth a call to live more faithfully and sacrificially? How has truth formed and changed you in Christ?
- Which Jesus do you want? If you had been in the crowd that day, chafing under a Roman emperor, would you have wanted the Jesus whose kingdom was not of this world or would you have wanted Jesus Barabbas, the one ready to bring the fight to your enemies? What implications might there be for today?
