Description

"Whatever the Father does, the Son also does." Jesus asserts a unique, complete harmony and identity with his heavenly Father. The religious leaders rightly understand this claim to be a blasphemous claim to divinity -- but only if it isn't true. If it is true, then Jesus has the power and the right to heal us and save us from death. This, the third sign, invites us to trust Jesus with our very lives!

For Reflection:

The religious leaders were angry with Jesus for "working" on the Sabbath. Jesus' answer was to proclaim his unique authority as the Son who imitates the Father.

- Signs point beyond themselves to something more important. The healing of the disabled man points to the truth that Jesus explains in today's passage. How would you explain that truth in your own words? What do we learn about Jesus from this miracle and its timing?

- How might God be inviting you to believe and trust in Jesus so that you might be filled more with life and light?
