It’s glaring as you step foot on campus and in your classes — “where are the men?” Jared Bell of Elizabeth City State University calls for more male representation of our campuses as he joins the “I Love My HBCU?” podcast to talk about his journey through college and becoming an HBCU King. If you need a variety of examples of what to become, the limited number of Black male representation on HBCU campuses in turn has a potentially adverse effect on young men attending college. Not one to shirk responsibility, Jared puts some accountability on himself and his peers to be part of the solution.
A radio host on ECSU’s radio station, digital marketing major and all round active engager, he considers himself a good example of making the most of your college experience. As one who didn’t start at his HBCU but at a Community College, but has made a palpable impact, Jared wants his legacy to be that of student engagement. It is the lifeblood of the community building that many love at HBCUs and he is proud of the role he has played to bolster that at ECSU.
Tune in to hear Jared Bell’s proposal of bringing the HBCU culture to high schools and what ideas it could spark regardless of where the high schoolers choose to go next. *All opinions expressed by guests do not reflect the views of all entities of "I Love My HBCU?"
