Regarded as a celebrity academic by the I Love My HBCU? podcast, Dr. Korie Grayson is a STEM professional modeling the passion to be found in sciences for Black female college students. “You have to have a life outside of your lab,” says Korie and does she?! Proud of all of who she is, Korie invites you to check out all the fun things this scientist gets into, by peeking through her social media.
Dr. Grayson credits her HBCU for the foundation of who she is today: a scientist and an advocate. Attending Norfolk State University for Korie meant that she was surrounded by people who knew as a Black child the opportunities, but also the hardships they would go through once they left, which greatly made a difference in the approach. They emboldened in her a confidence that has ushered her into every space she occupied thereafter.
With good reason, Korie wants to see every black high schooler pick an HBCU as their first choice for college as long as their program is offered. Even though they are likely not to appreciate the trials and hardships at the time, it will be rewarding.
The self-proclaimed introvert didn’t set out to be a celebrity scientist, but she IS glad that her very presence is lending impact. Tune in to hear Dr. Grayson’s daring take on why PWIs also need Black students in their “play group.” *All opinions expressed by guests do not reflect the views of all entities of "I Love My HBCU?"
