(ON A SERIOUS NOTE. Before I get weird, I need to admit that near the beginning of this episode, I misspoke. I say that PARIS IS BURNING represents the queer African-American community. That's not what I meant. It represents the queer BLACK community. (And Latinx community, of course.) I spoke too fast and was an idiot. The end. I do apologize. I understand this film tackles very sensitive topics, so I want to make sure everything I say is appropriate and never EVER want to offend people.)
So director Jennie Livingston is a freakin' audacious legend because she managed to film a documentary about the queer Black and Latinx community in New York City which debuted in 1990 which is a huge deal because like come on gay representation onscreen was so rare until like the 2000s or 2010s even and this movie is fun and celebratory but also deeply tragic but like it needs to be and this movie should seriously be shown in schools because it's so ahead of its time and important and the costumes and lights and VOGUINGGGGG which is a dance because there was this singer named Madonna who was really famous who kinda started it and my 12th grade trigonometry/pre-calculus teacher used to go to school with her but Madonna has nothing to do with this movie anyway and let's all vogue.
