The book picks up exactly where we left off in A Shadow in the Ember and has given us just as many questions as answers around the prophecy, and Sera and Poppy's fate.
Sera's journey, while parallel to Poppy's own path to self-assurance and power, is so distinctly and beautifully her own that it feels impossible not to love her. Her relationship with Nyktos becomes a space for her to explore her own wants and needs without the threat of death. And of course, through all of that healing, JLA gave us some of the best sex scenes we could have asked for!
