Description

Joran van der Sloot is a Dutch serial killer and convicted murderer known for his involvement in two high-profile cases - the 2005 disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba, and the 2010 murder of Stephany Flores in Peru. Van der Sloot's criminal history paints a picture of a manipulative and pathological liar who preyed on vulnerable women. Psychological analyses suggest he exhibits traits of a narcissistic personality disorder and a lack of empathy. His ability to charm and deceive allowed him to evade justice for years, leaving families devastated in his wake. The documentary "Pathological: The Lies of Joran van der Sloot" delves into his disturbing mindset and the lasting impact of his crimes on the victims' loved ones.

In May 2005, 18-year-old Natalee Holloway disappeared during a high school graduation trip to Aruba. Van der Sloot was among the last people seen with her before she vanished. For years, he provided conflicting statements and false leads about Holloway's whereabouts, fueling suspicions about his involvement in her disappearance.

In 2023, van der Sloot pleaded guilty to extortion and wire fraud charges for attempting to extort money from Holloway's family, promising to reveal the location of her remains in exchange for cash. As part of the plea deal, he confessed to killing Holloway and disposing of her body in the ocean after an altercation on the beach.

Five years after Holloway's disappearance, in 2010, van der Sloot murdered 21-year-old Stephany Flores in a hotel room in Lima, Peru. He was convicted of first-degree murder and robbery, and sentenced to 28 years in prison.
