Beach Ball Gratitude
1
Tom Hanks in that movie had a substitute one.
He drew a face on it. Called it Wilson (not Rita).
It helped him keep his wits while castaway.
And keep his hopes up and eventually
Get him all the way back to the continent…
Back (sort of) to the life he had before.
2
With a flat and pliable, real beach ball.
You must work it to make it go round.
And (unlike Wilson) must awaken it from flat to sphere.
Inflate it with your own breath and attitude.
Speak it up with positive self-talk.
Till it’s light and easy to keep off the ground.
3
Once up in this atmosphere,
Your goal becomes keeping it, not only inflated,
But up in the air. Not touching the ground!
A light, delicate maneuvering strategy
Tapping with fingertips helps with this
And with sending it over to another, then another.
Around the circle, the town. Around the world.
4
If it should get away from you,
It will stay aloft for a bit on its own
And when eventually touching down again
Perhaps in a field of tall scrap grass or
Out over or upon a body of water
It will float and not go under.
It may re-lift all on its own
Or will, at least, be easily retrievable.
5
So it is with our personal attitude
When inflated with positive air, it becomes gratitude
Easily floated through inner space
Where it entertains notions of getting passed ‘round
And swelling into an even greater sphere of graltitude:
Positronic attitudes abound at higher altitudes.
