Listen

Description

Verse

Together we make up a buzzing swarm [hive] of deconstruction

In our claiming “we are right!” simply because “we are Christians!”

As god’s citizens, we are aimed at and hell-bent for heaven.

Does god swell with pride while mollified in the viscosity of our praises?

Or do we drag down our own statuses

And our versioned Jesus along with us?!

Verse

Listen closely and you might detect

An inner context in each of the buzzes

A definite whine of “thems and usses”

A throbbing pulse of who’s to blame.

Millions of assorted “buts and thuses”

Millions of additional “can’ts and cuzzes”

Verse

And the god they are so determined to acclaim…

Is a quart-sized rendition of the true I AM.

His creation is but a model miniature of the real thing;

Limited in every way imaginable: in scope, in stature, in texture,

Scaled back—it hangs framed on a hook

Like dead meat for vultures of ridicule to pick at.

Verse

And in the other corner stands ‘all the others’

All who follow their God-given whims and indigenous talents.

Going strictly by, what feels right. All things au naturel.

And they are delighted—not threatened—by other ‘others’

Not cookie-cuttered versions of their own mirrored images.

In fact, they seem to like that arrangement even better.

Verse

And what seems to be springing up out of this other corner

Is a new breed of Jesus types who hold closer to His advice,

To His principles, His unfettered collection of recommendations

His words, organically-mannered to be easily taken in

And taken to heart...to get built upon.

With interpersonal relationships and whole dominion ones alike.

Chorus

The ‘god botherers’ are at odds with all others

They will pester god with every this and that

They bother him incessantly, second-naturedly

They take to the practice like a duck takes to water

Like Fred and Ginger take to the dance floor

Their way is to pester god till he coughs up answers

Ones they can slap the common sense right out of,

Then twist their essences into cartoon balloon shapes.
