Nearly 20 years on sees a post-apocalyptic Australia
Starring Mel Gibson as Mad Max and he’s driving a
Supercharged, arcade noir road roller—in search of fuel.
And traveling with him, albeit over his head,
We see a different Roto-Gyroman (a Gyro Captain)
Bruce Spence rotoring across the big screen in 1981.
2
He flies low, buzzing a herd of evil desert punkers
He lobs a cocktail, mimes an F-bomb at those motor heads below.
Touching down, we see he’s a lanky scrounger,
A bit of a bounder and he's relying on his wits alone.
And he’s holding close [inside his coat]
A telescoping glass for scanning ‘long the ridge.
he’s a lanky scrounger,
A bit of a bounder and he's relying on his wits alone.
3
All around him, desolation is strewn at his feet.
Out a couple hundred yards reveals more of the same.
He squints to peruse as far as his naked view allows.
More squalor and destitution [lies] everywhere.
Then, lifting the glass to his eye,
He expands the tube to tune its focus.
4
A blurred mirage is forming
Out at the northern edge of the world…
An altogether different scape sharpens into bold relief
Against the backdrop of wasteland sky:
Every 50’s kid’s wildest dream-come-true
Drones…“There be drones, Captain!” Flying cars!!
