The New Adventure of the Day-to-day
Vs: Carpe diem. Nil desperandum.
Don’t you give into the sediment of sentiment.
Lean more in with an abutment-like granite
That’s somehow soul-solid—lively—not stolid and build on that.
Get well-groomed in a yearning for moving far enough away
So as to lose sight of the shore.
Vs: When Jesus was alive He was the picture of adventure;
Out amidst the people, moving and speaking in motifs
That would tend to break the [very] back of convention.
He had things to say to anyone, to everyone.
Casting His eyes on them, Jesus drew in the sinner
Flipping their view of self over, from loser to winner.
Vs: Thinking outside the box can bring better results
When lodged inside your routine ruts.
You can roll your dice. Imagine wider routes
It’s no crime sketching your truest self.
Paint with bold colors—splashing them over the borders.
Practice makes perfect so work at it. Work at it.
Vs: Remember the command: Love God with all of your head!
So stop giving your “betters” the choice to choose in your stead.
Punch above your weight. Grab situations by the pragmatics.
Life requires from you your own spirit calisthenics.
That’s when loving God with all your heart walks in—
Commands the room and rises to the level of overflowing.
Vs: The idea that humans are born sinners
As the years go by grows thinner,
And superstition bulbs get dimmer
Unsubstantiated claims, they start to flicker
Meanwhile our intuition lights glow brighter
Our burdens of guilt feel lighter,
Take flight or melt away altogether.
Ch: It’s the new adventures of the day-to-day
The Maker meant it to play this way:
Work your heart, work your heart,
Not bunkered in—be a force at large.
Risk as flint, make a spark.
Rewrite the play. Reanimate your clay
For whatever venture awaits you today.
