Latika Gordon was born in Brooklyn, New York. She was raised in a loving home that consisted of her parents, two brothers and one sister. She and her family moved to the small community of Penney Farms, Florida in the summer of 2001.
Having grown up around music and the arts, her love for creative arts grew naturally as a child. She fondly recalls her love for music spurring to a new musical height, after receiving an electric piano as a Christmas gift from her parents. Conversely, throughout her life, Latika has always been fascinated by images, colors, and music. Naturally, she was drawn to sketching, drawing, painting, singing, and musical instruments. Accordingly, her interest in the Arts was cultivated during her teenage years and further developed when she began to sing in the choir at her church and oversee the churches' Music and Arts programs.
Latika is an artist who enjoys using her talents to serve God and to make people smile. She has an internal craving always to give. Latika sees the potential of all things and that includes in people. As an established and well-respected talent in the music community, Latika maintains a multi-faceted presence as an artist, songstress, pianist, educator, and composer.
Additionally, Lakita has worked in the Marketplace as an Insurance Agent over the last ten years. Moreover, having founded Tika Eclectic Music and Arts; she is a successful entrepreneur with a thriving business. Notably, her business offers customized art pieces, commissioned art, wearable art, piano lessons, beginner guitar lessons, paint parties, and event work with live acoustic music.
Per Lakita, Art makes people optimistic about their future. Art can be used to help spread a message of inspiration, making people achieve remarkable things in life. Art can be a form of communication between people, to focus on common issues for the betterment of humankind. Inspirational music is the best form of creative art. Art is food for the soul. Art makes you question things, the sublime and the mundane. Art stirs your emotions and makes you feel alive. Art takes you on a journey - to places you've never been, never likely to go - and sometimes would never want to go to. With art we can live vicariously through others love, grief, pain, and joy. Without art we just hollow vessels.
Lakita is an artist like no other! She will hypnotize you with her vocals and with her design on a dime beautiful painting. Unequivocally, Lakita approaches teaching with a combination of encouragement, insight, and patience, helping each student get from where they are to where they want to be in their musical journey. Treating every student as an individual, Lakita takes the time to understand each child's (or adult's) strengths, weaknesses, and goals in working to create a plan for success. There are many paths to the top of the mountain.
To this end, her dream is to build confidence and children by showing them that they can do things they never thought possible. She strives to help level the playing field for children from under-resourced communities by ensuring that all children have access to high-quality music education and art education, no matter their background or circumstance.
