Growing up I seemed average, just sewing and changing McCalls, Simplicity, and Butterick patterns into something else. After graduating from Thomas A. Edison High School in Fresno CA my goal was to attend college. I completed three semesters at California State University, Fresno and found that it was not for me as the required general education classes were just that, general. The university Fashion classes seemed elementary I wasn’t challenged so I moved on. Thank God for wise counsel, which came through my Aunt Bertha Parker of Pasadena CA, she told me about fashion college. I moved to Southern California to attend Los Angeles Trade Technical College and another world opened up, I loved it and exceeded with my courses! After earning my Associate in Arts Fashion Design Degree, I completed another two-year course study at Los Angeles Trade Technical College to receive a completion Certificate in Tailoring.
As I began my career in the Los Angeles apparel industry, I continued to educate myself when possible. Completing UCLA Extension course “All About Business of Apparel Manufacturing-Marketing” in 1991. The world changed again this time in pattern making 1994 through present I’ve completed training from Gerber Garment Technology course for Apparel Computer Specialist to operate Silhouette and Pattern Design Systems. Successfully completed AccuMark Pattern Design Version 8, Version 9, CORE 9 AE, Version 10 awarded by Gerber Technology. PAD Elite 4.8 Computer Pattern Systems. Training OptiTex Pattern Design Version 9, Version 10 Fashion Design for computerized pattern making. Tuka Cad Design Pattern Making / Grading.
My career started when I was hired as a 1st Pattern Maker for Outrags of California. My career home became L’Koral Industries where I worked over 17 years. From 1st Pattern Maker, Production Pattern Maker, to Work Coordinator and only leaving to utilize more of my skills as a leader. GoldSign Jeans, Living Doll Los Angeles, Mighty Fine, Era Clothing and Parc & Peral Inc are a few companies I’ve had the pleasure of assisting in their design and pattern departments. I currently work in the apparel industry as a Production Pattern Maker /Technical Designer on a freelance bases. I’ve been happy in this career that chose me for over 35 years, and love the work that I do.
I’m extremely thankful that my Mother Juanita Ashley introduced me to sewing by helping her make choir uniforms for our church. Through my own business I’ve been able to use my talent for the Creator to help clothe His people. By Sheryl Lynn Apparel LLC makes clothes for all occasions. From custom fit jeans, bags, costumes, uniforms, choir robes, clergy robes, prom dresses to wedding gowns. Providing pattern service, sample development and duplicates to Fashion Designers who need assistance with developing their fashion collection.
