Your desire goes away because somewhere along the way you and your partner have stopped growing and discovering new feelings together. It is not easy to maintain that level of desire and butterflies in the long lasting relationship however with a few tweaks it is possible. You fall in love with the feeling of butterflies that the person is mirroring you, so you can experience a new side of yourself that you have not yet experienced. If you are seeking this feeling from an existing relationship that has already given you the experience of a certain aspect of yourself, unless you both grow and expand together to allow for new feelings to develop within the relationship, it will not be possible for you to maintain the desire. Sex could easily be a mechanical action in marriage, but sex without desire is a rut that does not bring any joy.
