Roughly 100 years before the coming of Christ, there was “all-out war between the Sadducees and Pharisees that lasted over eight years. Even after the war there were flair ups and sub-factions developed. Everyone claimed to be the rightful rulers (of Israel) and kept trying to assassinate the leaders of the other parties.
