Description

On Episode Five of Mindful Warrior Radio, join me as I speak with Kaleigh Gilchrist, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and professional surfer, for a vulnerable and insightful episode. We talk about surviving a tragic balcony collapse in South Korea following the USA Women’s Water Polo team's gold medal win at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea. She shares her memories about the following day, the life-changing impact of the tragedy, and her commitment to healing. Kaleigh also talks with me about her struggles with anxiety and panic attacks, how she works diligently to build mental-emotional skills to meet these mental health opportunities, her path to healing, the importance of self-connection, and the value of having the right support group.

Mindful Warrior is hosted by Kami Craig, a former elite athlete, Olympic champion, and performance and culture design coach at Mindful Warrior.

Our guest on Episode Five of Mindful Warrior Radio is two-time Olympic gold medalist and professional surfer, Kaleigh Gilchrist.

Kaleigh shares, “There were things that popped up that made me realize that I was losing my sense of self. Going through panic was a realization that this is not who I am. Not that you can push away the panic attack; everyone goes through anxiety and panics in their own way. But I think that was kind of the epiphany moment to sit down and reconnect with what I value and who I am and get back to that. And also take what I personally learned and use it to grow into the person I want to become.”

“The physical progression is so much easier to be seen than the mental, so it’s really easy to hold on and attach to and push forward. And the mental is a lot harder, you don’t know the progress being made until you are put into a situation that might bring up those feelings. When you are in that situation, and you can see that progress, it’s a euphoric feeling because it’s not as noticeable as the physical.”
