Description

I'm a Canadian, and I live in Toronto. And I love my city. Toronto is the most multicultural city in the world. And it's my favourite thing about living here. But now and then, I like to go down to the states.

I've travelled around for trade shows for consulting for martial arts. I love New York. I love the energy and the intensity. The business culture is second to none in the world, as is the startup entrepreneur culture in Silicon Valley.

And on this day, I will celebrate the immense gifts that technology and Silicon Valley have given to the world. Our ability to easily connect to people anywhere in the world is why I have an apprentice team in Africa. American ingenuity has helped us see further with the James Webb telescope, a marvel of technology. It took NASA decades to build that telescope. It had 344 single points of failure, and ten new technologies had to be invented before it was even possible.

The James Webb Telescope had all those headwinds, yet there it sits, at the second Lagrange point, like a golden Jewel, 1.5 million kilometres from Earth.

Perhaps the most remarkable demonstration of the inestimable power of Science and Technology was the development of a highly effective Covid-19 vaccine by the world's countries, led by India and the United States. But, even more remarkable, they did it in a year.

A mere decade ago, such a feat would have been unimaginable. Up until now, vaccines generally took a decade to develop. Americans have proven time and again that when the stakes are high, the pressure only hardens their resolve, focuses their collective will and moves it to action.

So I celebrate the United States on this Thanksgiving day. The world is a better place because America is in it.

Go USA!

Happy Thanksgiving.
