Getting Dressed for Church

Col. 3: 10-12

A Christian has “stripped off” (v. 9) the “clothing” of Col. 3:8-9, and “put on,” or become like “Christ...who lives in all” believers (vv. 10a, 11e). So every believer can be dressed divinely, in a new…

1. divine “nature” like God’s and Jesus’ nature (v. 10, and described in vv. 12c-15)

2. divine semblance/image of God, because you “know your Creator and become

like him” (v. 10b)

3. divine community, without:

a. racial barriers (“a Jew or Gentile,” v. 11a)

b. religious barriers (“circumcised or uncircumcised,” v. 11b)

c. cultural barriers (“barbaric” Greek or “uncivilized” Scythian, v. 11c)

d. social barriers (”slave, or free,” v. 11d)

4. divine community, with:

a. a divine plan, the Church (“chose,” v. 12a)

b. a divine goal: holiness (“holy people,” v. 12b)

c. a divine bond: love (“people he loves,” v. 12c)
