Join Joe McDonald as he reads from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, exploring the themes of forgiveness and self-reflection in Step 4 AA. Joe discusses the importance of genuine remorse and the belief that a higher power can guide us to better things.
“It might, so they’re going to talk about their experience. Some people tell us so, but it’s only a half-truth. It depends on us and our motives. Does that make sense? If we’re sorry for what we’ve done and have the honest desire to let God take us to better things, we believe that we will be forgiven and we’ll have learned our lesson.”
Joe emphasizes that true forgiveness comes from understanding who we are and embracing a higher power’s role in our lives. “Notice how it said that we’ll be forgiven. I think you need to understand people talk about well I had to forgive me. No, you don’t. You need to come to believe in the one who does. Because once you know who you are and whose you are, you are an instrument of that forgiveness.”
Joe’s discussion offers a message of hope and the possibility of transformation through the 12-step recovery process. This session emphasizes the importance of reaching out for help and the power of the support found within recovery communities.
