“Wait, this movie was directed by Mel Gibson?”
The un-canceled Hollywood titan who brought us Braveheart and Apocalypto is back with what can generously be described as a movie. Even a bald Mark Wahlberg portraying the unhinged villain doesn’t provide enough entertainment value to save this plane-wreck. The concept — three people on a small plane in conflict with each other — is solid. But the execution is laughable. Which is good for us, because we have a blast discussing this one.
While the problems with this film aren’t all on Mel’s shoulders, we’re left wondering why he would sign on for such a project. It feels like he was working from a half-finished script, or his second-unit director did all the work while Gibson held his hand out for the paycheck. Either way, this movie barely gets off the ground, and when it does, the baffling choices from the two protagonists make for an unintentional comedy of errors that causes it to come crashing down again almost immediately.
Flight Risk is a 2025 action thriller directed by Mel Gibson, and starring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery, and Topher Grace.
