Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. Welcome to the Rhode Island Weather Podcast for Wednesday, February 25th.
Folks, this morning we woke up to 7 degrees. Right now? 38. That's a 31 degrees swing in one day. Rhode Island doesn't do anything halfway.
We picked up a dusting overnight. Maybe four tenths of an inch. Nothing dramatic. But tonight brings a quick encore. A cold front slides through after 9 P.M., kicking off snow showers across the state. Providence sees flurries between 9 P.M. And 2 A.M. Down along Narragansett Bay, those flurries mix with rain. Either way, it's fast. Gone before you finish your morning coffee. Lows settle near 28 degrees inland, 31 degrees by the water.
Thursday morning.. Sunshine. Glorious, guilt free sunshine. Highs climb to 41 degrees with light northwest winds, 5 to 8 miles an hour. The kind of afternoon where a walk along the waterfront actually sounds appealing.
Thursday night is the gut punch. Skies clear, winds go calm. And temperatures nosedive. Providence drops to 17 degrees. The bay holds onto 22. That's the kind of cold where your car door handle bites back.
Now let me walk you through the next few days. Friday stays sunny and crisp, high near 38 degrees. Saturday is the gem. Providence touches 47 degrees. The bay sees 44. Closest thing to spring we've felt in weeks. Enjoy every minute, because Sunday a cold front rolls in with snow showers and highs stuck in the upper 30s. Then Monday.. Arctic air parks itself right over us. Highs struggle to hit 26 degrees. Lows Sunday and Monday nights crater into the teens and single digits.
One bright spot to hold onto. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight every single day now. Spring equinox is just three weeks out.
I'll be tracking that Monday cold snap closely. Check back tomorrow for the latest.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
