The Call To Serve
Today's scripture reading is taken from the Gospel of:
Mark 10:25 (NKJV) ~ "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
This scripture challenges our understanding of greatness and leadership. True greatness, according to Jesus, is found in serving others. Jesus, the King of Kings, chose to come to earth not to be served but to serve humanity, even to the point of giving His life.
Serving others doesn’t always require grand gestures. It can be as simple as lending a listening ear to a friend, helping a neighbour with groceries, or volunteering at a local charity. These small acts of service, when done with a heart of love and humility, reflect the character of Jesus.
Service also extends to our families. Often, the people closest to us are the ones we overlook. Serving our spouses, children, and relatives with love and patience can transform our home environments into places of peace and joy.
Our world today is driven by self-interest; choosing to serve is a powerful testimony of our faith. It shows that our lives are guided by the teachings of Jesus, who exemplified the ultimate act of service by giving His life for us.
