This week's thought is how our perspective of ALARA in the OR is not quite the same as imaging within the department. Many of the radiographic criteria we employ for dose reduction i.e. minimal OID, maximum SID, etc are secondary compared to the risk of additional anesthesia time. Therefore, the surgical imager must be efficient in their imaging practices. One concept to consider would be The Image Fulcrum.
