Philip brings the gospel to Samaria, a place already captivated by a man named Simon who amazed crowds with sorcery and was called “the Great Power of God.” As Philip preaches Jesus, true miracles break out, people are healed, and the city is filled with joy. Simon believes and follows Philip, but his motives start to crack when he tries to buy the power of the Holy Spirit from the apostles. Peter calls him out, warning that God’s gifts can’t be purchased or used for personal status.
This message challenges us to examine our own hearts. Are we drawn to the appearance of power or true transformation? Are we spectators of God or participants in His mission? Just like Samaria, God can move in surprising places when people respond with real faith rather than self-promotion.
Let this story call us back to humility, obedience, and the power of the Spirit that changes lives.
