"It's probably the furthest distance that someone called our office to talk to me. It was a young lady from Arkansas, but she's from New York originally. And she called me and said, I'm getting a call, calls from a investigator telling me I need to drive or fly from Arkansas to New York to be charged with a felony."
Criminal defense attorney Jerry King details a recent case involving grand larceny in the State of New York. An Arkansas woman was told to come back to New York to face trial for DSS fraud, amongst other charges. Hear how the staff at King Law in Rochester, New York handled this criminal defense case.
"And so I asked, well, what kind of felony? And she started telling me they're accusing her of fraud. DSS fraud is Department of Social Services. It's a place where people go to get food stamps now called SNAP benefits or other public assistance. Assistance with heat in the housing and all these different types of things. And basically, the investigator was accusing her of receiving a thousand or $2,000 of money that she didn't deserve."
