Marc was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Went to Vancouver College high school, and then earned an athletic scholarship to Santa Clara where he was a recipient of All Freshman, All Conference, Academic All American and numerous other awards. During Marc's time at Santa Clara they won two postseason championships, the CBI and CIT. Marc then chose to pursue his dream of playing professional basketball and signed with an agent and got recruited to play in Italy where he played for his first 3 professional seasons. He then played one season in France and the next five seasons in Japan. Newly retired this past summer Marc now lives with his wife and two young boys just outside of Vancouver. Currently working for a private equity real estate firm which focuses on commercial real estate development in Western Canada.
I've known Marc since our battles on the court throughout high school. We also got to train together during basketball Canada's Centre for Performance program and I can attest that Marc is one of the hardest workers I've met. It's a pleasure seeing the success he was able to achieve on the court, it is well deserved. It's also great seeing the balance that he has built within his personal and professional life thus making his transition into retirement an easy one, and one I think many fellow players can learn a lot from.
In our conversation we delved into:
The analogy between basketball and life and the lessons we learn through sport
The importance of the mental side for succesful athletes
The importance of family and balance and developing interests off the court as well
Taking care of our body for career longevity
Our identity beyond athletes on the court
And much, much more!!
