While the term mindfulness is commonly used as a failsafe for all things self-improvement, what does it actually mean and how do we know if we are truly living mindfully? During a conversation with Peter Callahan, Business Leadership Coach and Leadership & Engagement Director for Copper Beech Institute, we dive deep into the definition of mindfulness with very little reference to the actual word. Peter explains the impact of living a balanced life by moving from an achievement driven mindset to one of presence.
The interview takes on more of a casual tone as two friends engage in dialogue and the sharing of personal experiences with growth and moving from cognition to action. Peter references Viktor Frankl and explains how the space between stimulus and response allows for awareness, even during times of heightened emotion.
Peter shares tips on habit formation and replacement and explains the power of asking the right questions to change behavior and understand rather than reaffirm beliefs. This discussion covers the gamut from personal growth and self-reflection to the outward and external components of life. While some moments go deep, this episode is not without a set of very clear takeaways for building better habits and approaching situations, especially ones that might be challenging, with a clear head and thoughtful lens.
