What's up, y'all! I missed you guys(as I always do) and I hope that y'all have been doing so so well๐ In this week's spoken word diary entry we will be talking about silence and how both it and sacrifice go hand in hand. We will also be reflecting on what social justice means to us and what it means when it comes to movement work and creating spaces where we as people of color can form our own table, instead of fighting tirelessly for a seat at a table that doesn't welcome us with open arms. The heart of this week's entry stems from my current work with the organization that I have been interning for, No More Tears, and the focus that I have had in regard to dismantling our prison industrial complex, as well as the pathway of young children into the prison system. This complex that we have built with so much anger, shame, and corruption can no longer take our young Black girls and boys... the expectancy of young Black boys going to prison or jail at least once in their life can't continue to increase, as well as the absence of fathers in households of color at the hands of this system can't continue to become routine. We must break it and we must do so together. With all that being said, I hope all of you enjoy this week's entry and please know that I love all of you dearly, happy listening!๐ค๐ง
