On August 1, 1966 Charles Whitman, a USMC veteran, ascended the 28 story tower on the UT-Austin Campus and opened fire on the unsuspecting student body that was walking between classes below. At the end of the 90 minute rampage, 18 people were dead, including the shooter. An autopsy would show that Charles had a malignant tumor on his brain and many believe the combination of the the tumor and an oppressive and abusive childhood were responsible for his evil actions that day.
