Junko Furuta was only seventeen years old on November 25, 1988, when she was kidnapped on her way home from work by a group of four teenage boys. One of the boys, Miyano Hiroshi, was a classmate of Junko's who had been scorned when he asked Junko on a date and she rejected him. In retaliation, Miyano and three of his friends– Ogura Jō, Minato Shinji, and Watanabe Yasushi–held Junko captive for 44 days where they repeatedly beat, tortured, and raped her. Junko would remain imprisoned by these boys until her body finally succumbed to its injuries and she died on January 4th, 1989.
