Making ______ Better Again, wherever that may be, has always been an extremely discomforting concept. Whether it is spoken in English, German, Italian or any other language, the idea that some unknown point in history is for some reason the enviable destination of modern society is worrisome. Never are these points in history defined. There is only ever a general reference to some point before today. The crazy thing about that uncertain point in the past is that we all experience the nostalgia of the past. The days when life was easier. The days when we were younger and cared less. The days from when even if we’d had difficult lives, time has managed to get our minds to block out the bad stuff anyway. So we mew for days that probably weren’t great anyway because however bad they were, they must have been better than the bad of today.
Yet when those days were bad, politicians were making these same promises and look where we are.
