Description

In this week’s episode of The Week Ahead Podcast, Ken Robinson talks about the importance of testing what you hear against Scripture. In a world full of voices — from podcasts and preachers to social media and opinions — it’s easy to be influenced by messages that sound spiritual but don’t align with God’s truth. Ken reminds us of 1 John 4:1, where believers are told to “test the spirits,” because not every message that mentions Jesus comes from Him.

Ken encourages a heart like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, who listened eagerly to Paul’s teaching but also went home to check the Scriptures for themselves. True faith, he says, is open-minded but anchored in God’s Word. He shares practical ways to test what we hear: Does it match the Bible? Does it draw us closer to Jesus? Does it show the fruit of the Spirit? And have we prayed about it?

Ken also warns against common traps — chasing new revelations, taking verses out of context, trusting charisma over character, or letting emotions decide what’s true. Instead, he points us to Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp for my feet.” When Scripture is our guide, we won’t be tossed around by every new idea.

Testing what we hear isn’t about being suspicious, but about walking in freedom and peace. Knowing God’s Word protects us from confusion and helps us discern truth from error. Ken closes with a prayerful encouragement: keep your Bible open, listen carefully, and let God’s Word light your path in the week ahead.
