Today on Too Opinionated we sit down with the creative team behind the new documentary, SHE.
The award-winning documentary film SHE has been acquired by Gravitas Ventures and will premiere on streaming platforms beginning December 27, 2022. She, a true crime documentary, is the first documentary film by Vanessa Cicarelli and Jason Greer of Birdy & Bean Films and stars Emmy-award nominated Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek: Voyager and Orange is the New Black), Coco Jones (Bel-Air), and Raven Goodwin (Single Black Female).
She is a full-length documentary about writer Aimée Baker and her award-winning poetry collection, Doe (University of Akron Press). Doe is her quest to honor missing and unidentified women and make sure their stories are not forgotten. Every year, over 300,00 women go missing in the United States and there
are currently over 2,600 Jane Does waiting to be identified. The few that make it to the top of our newsfeed capture the nation’s attention. She brings the same attention to some of the stories that never made the news. Like Baker’s poetry collection, She shifts the attention away from the perpetrators of crimes and centers the stories of the women throughout the film. Each woman’s story includes narration by Kate Mulgrew and readings of Baker’s poems by Coco Jones and Raven Goodwin.
