Repeatedly abused by his stepfather, Donnie Foster grew up in constant fear. He began to self-medicate as an elementary school student, sipping bourbon he cleverly stole while taking valium from his mother's prescription bottle, so the beatings would become more bearable. Institutionalized from purposefully burning down his house, Donnie escaped, only to be returned for more shock therapy. After being sent home, he ran away at sixteen to survive on the streets where he ate from garbage dumpsters. Lost and alone, Donnie began a treacherous life of substance abuse, dealing, theft, and running from law enforcement, all in a search for hope and redemption.
