According to a UCLA neuroscientist, we cannot focus on positive and negative feelings at the same time. This was a real gamechanger for me. There is no room inside your brain to think about both. So why the hell do we take up that valuable real estate in our brains with negative thoughts? 

If you're focusing on positive things, you cannot be negative, down, depressed. The only way you can feel upset is when you think about negative feelings. It's easier said than done, I know. 

But when we feel grateful, our brain releases dopamine, the reward chemical. The more gratitude we feel, the more rewards we receive.
