In this episode of the Hello Lovely Podcast, we talk about fear — what it is, where it comes from, and how to process it.
Fear is often something we try to avoid. We don’t want to feel it, we don’t want to look at it, and sometimes we even try to change our circumstances just to make it go away. But fear is not something that needs to be avoided.
Fear is an emotion created by what you’re thinking. It makes sense it’s there.
When you feel fear, it’s not coming from the situation itself. It’s coming from a thought — usually a “what if” thought. When those thoughts go unanswered, they can feel overwhelming, and it can seem like the only way to feel better is to stop what you’re doing.
In this episode, we look at a different way to approach fear.
Fear is not a stop sign. It’s a magnifying glass.
When you feel fear, it brings your thoughts right up to the surface. Instead of avoiding it, you can use it to see exactly what you’re thinking.
The process is simple:
Acknowledge that you’re feeling fear.
Breathe.
Write down what you’re thinking.
When you do this, you can see the thoughts clearly and decide what you want to do with them. You can ask yourself if those thoughts are helping you or holding you back.
You can also practice feeling fear in your body. Notice where it shows up — your chest, your head, your heartbeat — and allow it to be there. Fear is just one emotion, and it will pass.
When you understand fear this way, it no longer controls your decisions. You can feel fear and still move forward.
Fear doesn’t mean stop. It’s an opportunity to get clear and keep going.
