Motivation to Get Stuff Done

In this episode of the Hello Lovely Podcast, I talk about motivation and how to create it so you can actually follow through on the things you want to do.

Many of us think motivation comes from our circumstances. We might believe we’ll feel motivated when we have the right schedule, the right plan, the right time of day, or the right resources. But what I share in this episode is that motivation doesn’t come from those things. Motivation comes from what you’re thinking.

Our brains are constantly evaluating what we see and experience and offering thoughts in response. Those thoughts then create emotions, and those emotions drive the actions we take. When we don’t feel motivated, it’s usually because of a thought we’re thinking in that moment.

Our brains are constantly evaluating what we see and experience and offering thoughts in response. Those thoughts then create emotions, and those emotions drive the actions we take. When we don’t feel motivated, it’s usually because of a thought we’re thinking in that moment.

For example, if you’re thinking something like “What’s the point?” or “It doesn’t matter,” that thought will naturally lead to a feeling of discouragement or lack of motivation. And when you feel that way, it becomes much harder to follow through on what you planned to do.

But when you intentionally choose a thought that creates motivation, the feeling changes. And when the feeling changes, the actions you take begin to change as well.

In this episode, I walk through the simple process of how our thoughts create feelings, how those feelings create actions, and how those actions produce results. Once you understand this process, you can begin choosing thoughts that help you create the motivation you’re looking for.

One of my favorite thoughts to use is simple: I’m going to figure it out. When I think that, I immediately feel motivated to take the next step.

Motivation isn’t something we have to wait for. It’s something we can create — one thought at a time.
