Hello, Lovely podcast with Ms Christie Williams - Realistic vs Possible

Realistic vs Possible

In this episode of the Hello Lovely Podcast, I talk about the difference between something being realistic and something being possible — and why the way we think about those two words can shape what we do next in our lives.

Many times when we want to start something new, our brain offers a long list of reasons why we can’t. It might sound like: I can’t because of time, money, energy, my job, my family, responsibilities, or the unknown. All of those things can be valid concerns. But when we start by assuming something isn’t achievable, we often block ourselves from even seeing the next step.

The phrase “be realistic” can sound very official and responsible. But when we look closely, it often prepares us for disappointment before we’ve even tried. Instead of thinking about what might be possible, we sometimes shut down the idea entirely.

In this episode, I explore the definitions of realistic and possible and how those ideas affect our thinking. Realistic can mean what we practically expect to achieve. But possible simply means something is able to be done. And when we believe something is possible, we open ourselves up to new actions, solutions, and opportunities.

I also talk about how our brains naturally resist new things because new actions require learning, trial and error, and sometimes failing along the way. That resistance can show up as a long list of reasons why something won’t work.

But when we start asking a different question — What if this were possible? — we begin creating space for new results.

Whether it’s confidence, a new job, paying off debt, improving relationships, or starting something creative like a podcast, the difference between realistic and possible often comes down to what we believe we can create.
