Jacqueline “Jackie” Garrick currently serves as Founder and President of the Non-Profit, Whistleblowers of America (WoA). Jackie founded WoA in 2017 after seeing first-hand how destructive whistleblowing can be one's career, personal life, and emotional stability. WoA offers resources and community to whistleblowers across America, spreading awareness, training, and advocacy in whistleblowing.
Jackie graduated with a degree in social work from Temple University in 1986 and joined the Army in 1992 as a social work officer with the rank of Captain. After an honorable discharge in 1995, Garrick became the Deputy Director of Healthcare for the American Legion. In 2005, Garrick continued working with veterans as an analyst on the Veterans Disability Benefits Commission in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), then served as a staff member on the House Committee on Veterans Affairs. In 2009, the Obama Administration appointed Jackie to serve in the office of Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (P&R) in the Department of Defense (DoD). During her appointment, she organized Defense Suicide Prevention Office (DSPO) which provided mental health resources to veterans.
In 2022, Jackie co-authored the book The Psychosocial Impacts of Whistleblower Retaliation: Shattering Employee Resilience and the Workplace Promise with Martina Buck. She also authored the Whistleblowers of America Peer Support Mentor Training Manual: Peer Support in overcoming the toxic tactics of whistleblower retaliation in 2018. Jackie remains active in advocacy for whistleblowers, specifically government employee and veteran whistleblowers.
