Elizabeth Fritzl and her father Josef always had a strained relationship. Starting at the age of 11, Elizabeth was abused at home by her father and would later feel compelled to run away. Tensions between the two of them eventually reached the point where Josef felt he was forced to do whatever was necessary to keep Elizabeth "safe" from the outside world.
