James Echols (and his partner Annette Peikert) were one of the earliest influences and mentors we had when we started Yo Miami, so it meant a lot to sit down with him and talk about his perspective on the art and culture scene in Miami today compared with back in the day. We talked about things like what works and what doesn't in the more institutionalized organizations, and how emerging artists can find opportunities that work for them.
